NIGER - The Power State of Nigeria.
Transparency, Accountability, Integrity
Nowhere is the importance of change better understood than with the newly elected Governor of Niger State, Dr. Muaza Babangida Aliyu,
who prefers to be humbly called “The Chief Servant”. Niger State being one of the most important states in Nigeria is destined
for radical change under the new Governor’s leadership. Governor Aliyu is privileged to lead Niger State which is the home of two
former Nigerian leaders, General Ibrahim Babangida and General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
Welcome to the political scene of Niger State – the Power State of Nigeria. Thirty one years of Political and Military brouhaha,
1st April 1976 to October 2007. In these thirty one years, no leader, military or political has been as focused and straight
as Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu – OON (Talban Minna). A technocrat with very high reputation, who prefers to be addressed as Chief
Servant instead of the traditional Your Excellency. That’s to let the people know that he has come to serve and not to be served
as is the case with most of our past leaders.
“A man who thinks the nation cannot do without him is a dangerous man and should be locked up” Patrick Wilmot.
I am compelled
through this medium to contribute to the issue at stake which has turn Niger State to a source of news gathering and this can be justified
by the prominence it has received from various newspapers.
For the very first time, Niger State, one out of Nigeria’s 19 northern states has squarely taken the bull by the horn. The state government
has introduced an innovation tagged public private partnership, PPP. From now on, the guiding principle in this dominantly agriculture-based
society is, while government is committed to enhancing the lots of its people, using the meager resources at its disposal, it has
put in place structures that will encourage the private sector to supplement its efforts, through bringing part or all the finances
needed to develop public infrastructure.
