Nigeria: The North, Oil And Nyako's Useful Intervention
Oct 10, 2008
Against the background of charges by some Niger Delta elements like Alhaji Asari Dokubo that the North is a parasitic component of the Nigerian federation, a meeting of Northern Governors Forum was held where the governors resolved to squarely address agricultural development. Though Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State spoke on behalf of the forum, knowledgeable correspondents who covered the meeting attributed the resolve to develop agriculture in the region to the governor of Adamawa State, Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako (rtd). Nyako's colleagues, according to news reports, had no difficulty agreeing with him, because apart from the fact that much of the food and meat consumed in the whole country are from the North, Admiral Nyako is widely regarded as Nigeria's biggest farmer. It is not for nothing that he has for several years been the president of the association of the nation's farmers

Nigeria: Civil Societies and the Burden of Proof
Oct 07, 2008
Whether it is mischief or gross attention complex that propels Malam Shehu Sani's antics, one thing cannot be denied him - he seems to have an insatiable capacity for ruffling feathers in the Northern establishment. He oscillates between being an infant terrible and a cause célèbre never shying away from controversy no matter how foolhardy. When a man makes a living by deliberately riding out storms, he deserves more scrutiny beyond the covert summations of the so-called leadership analysts of the CIA that specialise in manipulating the career progression or lack of it of outstanding Third World elite.

Corrupt leaders should be executed — Northern CAN scribe
Oct 04, 2008
Secretary of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Elder Saidu Dogo has advocated death sentence for corrupt leaders as the only way to checkmate corruption in the country. Dogo also said that if the family of such leaders are found to have benefited from the act, they should be sent to jail for 15 years as well as have their property confiscated. The scribe who said this in an exclusive interview with Saturday Champion on the 48th Independence anniversary of Nigeria, regretted that ethnicity, bad leadership and corruption have impeded national progress. He charged Nigeria to emulate China by taking a hard stand on corruption, adding that China is making progress today because any official caught in corruption in that country would face execution.
He said: "Take China for instance, it is making progress because they have checkmated corruption. If any official is found to be corrupt in China, first and foremost, he would be executed. "If his family benefited from it they will be sent to jail for 15 years, every property they owned, will be confiscated, that is their policy. In fact, I am advocating that we enact such laws in Nigeria…"
