GOV ALIYU CHARGES FCE ON EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
The Chief Servant and Governor of Niger State, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu has charged the Federal College of Education (FCE) Kontagora to be the flagbearer in ensuring that Niger North Senatorial Zone comes out of its educationally disadvantaged position in the State.
Governor Aliyu gave the charge when the Governing Board of the College paid a courtesy visit on him at the Government House, Minna.
He said the college is the highest educational institution situated in the Zone and that the college has the onerous task of ensuring that the area comes out and competes favourably with other zones in the State educationally.
Dr. Aliyu stated that the idea of having a State-owned University is to spread the faculties according to their geo-political importance and to allow the schools in the State to properly relate with their immediate environment. He pointed out that what the State needed most now are science teachers and that the Federal College of Education, Kontagora must be able to assist the Government in this direction.
He said the officials of the State Ministry of Education will present the State’s requirements to the college with a view to arriving at a consensus on areas of assistance by the college, saying that the State Ministry of Education has set a deadline when unqualified teachers will be disengaged from the State’s service.
The Chief Servant reiterated that teaching profession should not be the last resort, but should be a job for the people with the inclination, disposition, desire and the training to teach in the classroom.
Earlier, the Chairman, Governing Board of the College, Chief Charles Igboka felicitated with the Governor over his victory at the Court of Appeal in Abuja and the conferment of honoury doctorate degree of technology on him by the Federal
University of Technology, Minna which, according to him, are clear manifestations of his ability to stimulate and fast-track the socio-economic development of the State. He also expressed confidence in the leadership of the Chief Servant which he said will usher in purposeful administration of the State.
Chief Igboko expressed delight with the visit of the Governor to the College, and described it as unprecedented in the history of the college, adding that the visit has opened a vista of hope for a new beginning of intense collaboration with the State Government and the college’s immediate community.
He also assured the Governor of their readiness to contribute their quota towards achieving his laudable objectives in the education sector, and thanked him for the donation of a Toyota bus and financial support to the institution.
